Lizard is a game for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), developed solely by Brad Smith, and released in 2018. It is a platform game focused on self directed exploration.
Put on a lizard and go for an adventure!
Choose your lizard carefully. You can find six different ones scattered across the land, each with its own special ability.
You'll need these abilities as you make your difficult journey through many dangerous places. Carefully hop your way to the top of an active volcano. Surf down a surging river. Swim an underwater lake. Ascend a snowy mountaintop. What kind of strange creatures will you meet? Can you unravel the mysteries of Lizard?
A development blog has been kept while the game was in progress, which became focused on articles explaining various aspects of NES development. Examples:
The project was finally released in March 2018, initially through Itch.io, but also including a Steam version with achievements and trading cards, and an NES cartridge release with the help of Infinite NES Lives.
Source code was released in October 2018, as well as a DOS version.
